Relaxing on Beach
Congratulations, it seems like you've done everything you need to do for the perfect vacation. Now all you have to do is jet off
and have a really great time, right?

But wait a minute .... I bet you have not taken the time to read the small print on your travel insurance policy. I mean, have you taken the time to read it in full?

To be honest, not many of us do, and why should we? Truth is, we glance at the policy, see a glittering array of benefits, and think - that's great, I'm covered for everything, so there's really no problem, is there.

Travel insurance uncovered is my personal look at some of the exclusions on travel insurance policies that most people would assume are included.

Things you may not be covered for :

  • Injury caused by some sports and outdoor activities. Many accidents    happen each year with activities like jet skiing, kite surfing, skiing, scuba    diving and cycling. If you plan to do any of these things, ask the insurer    what they will cover before you leave on your vacation.

  • Contact lenses, hearing aids and dentures. Wouldn't have thought it    would you? If you have any of these things, ask about cover.

  • Treatment costs for a pre-existing medical condition not declared.    If you have a medical condition, always declare it to the insurer, if you    don't, you have no claim. Believe it or not some companies will cover    you for existing illnesses such as diabetes or asthma.

  • Stolen valuables and passports left unattended and not in a safe.    Always get a safety deposit box and never leave anything unattended.

  • Treatment for disease when proper vaccinations have not been taken.    If vaccinations are required make sure you get the proper jabs.

  • Personal injury caused when under the influence of alcohol or drugs.    Welcome to travel insurance uncovered. If you fall and break a leg    when you've had too much to drink, I'm afraid you're not covered.

This is just a small sample to give you an idea what to look for. Some insurance policies have quite an extensive list of exclusions, and though you may need a magnifying glass to read the small print on some of them, it is nonetheless worth doing, preferrably before you buy the policy. If you are in any doubt about any aspect of your travel insurance uncovered, then just ask the insurance company, believe me, it's worth the effort.

    Arranging your travel insurance :

Getting good cover at a good price can be very time consuming. Recently I was searching for travel insurance for a two week trip to Cyprus, from the UK. After getting quotes from four companies, offering similar cover with prices varying by as much as £28 (that's about $56) I called it a day.

I resumed my search a few days later and stumbled upon JS Insurance, and upon entering my details I was met with seven different quotations. Beside each price quoted was two links : One to view the actual cover provided, and one to view the policy wording, complete with exclusions. How helpful that was. Needless to say I arranged my cover with them.

I really liked this service, so here is a link if you would like a personal Travel Insurance Quote. You don't have to be a UK resident to take advantage of this great service, and backpackers can also get cover.

I hope you found Travel insurance uncovered helpful.
