My Rome Vacation Was An Inspiration

European Vacations > Italy Vacations > Rome Vacation

I saw many great sights on my Rome vacation and I returned feeling spiritually good, inspired, and at the same time, humble. The city is a masterpiece, a unique blend of art, history, modern and ancient architecture, culture, and an air of quiet, dignified self assurance.

We only had five days in Rome and I can tell you, it wasn't enough. We could have spent five days in Vatican City alone.

Rose and I looked up at the ceiling fresco, by Michelangelo, in the Sistine Chapel, and time just seemed to stand still. It was magnificent. In my opinion this is indeed one of the greatest works of art of all time, I was totally lost in wonder as I gazed upon it. 'Mesmerising' is a word you could use to describe it.

History and religious sights are everywhere, and just walking in Rome is an absolute pleasure with numerous fountains, parks, churches and monuments to be seen. Where else in the world can you experience an overwhelming feeling of peace in the midst of a bustling city?

The Fountain Was Romantic :

As we sat drinking coffee in an outdoor cafe in the famous Piazza Navona, I was beginning to wonder if we should extend our trip. Work beckoned however, and we had to settle for five days. We both felt we would have to return, and next year, God willing, we shall.

The Trevi Fountain
Another thing we managed to do was see the fabulous Trevi Fountain.

Memories of the old movie "Three Coins In The Fountain" came back to me, and my romantic side came to the fore again. In keeping with custom, we tossed our coins in the fountain, and made our wishes, which of course have to remain secret. It's one of the things you have to do on a Rome vacation.

There were many Rome Attractions we didn't manage to see, and on our agenda next time will be the Pantheon and the Colosseum.

The Pantheon was built around 125 AD to honor Roman Gods, and it contains the tombs of several Italian Kings. The Colosseum is one of ancient Rome's most famous monuments and should be worth a visit.

Great Shopping and Eating :

Even if history and religion have no appeal for you, a Rome vacation has much to offer. If you enjoy opera, the Teatro dell'Opera is the main theatre and stages many operas and ballet. Shopping is good, with lots of designer clothing boutiques and souvenir shops.

Eating in Italy's capital is a delight, and is the favourite evening pastime of the locals. Italian is my favourite food, so I felt right at home.

It took me a long time to decide on a Rome vacation, but hopefully it won't be long before I return. It's that good.
